An unexpected journey into healing and creativity

birdhouse making

Doug's journey into birdhouse making began in 2018 when he found himself searching for a new creative outlet. Always an artistic soul with a deep connection to nature, It was during the pandemic that he fully embraced the art of birdhouse making. What started as a therapy and a way of healing quickly grew into a passion, as Doug realized that crafting birdhouses allowed him to blend his love for nature with his artistic skills.

With renewed enthusiasm, Doug began honing his craft. He started by gathering salvaged wood and natural materials, which he transformed into unique birdhouses that reflected the natural beauty around him, and his love for the PNW.

At first, Doug shared his creations with friends and family, who were captivated by the charm and quality of his work. As word of Doug's unique birdhouses spread, he began receiving requests from local businesses and individuals who wanted to bring a piece of his craftsmanship into their own gardens.
As demand for his birdhouses continued to grow, Doug realized that this was more than just a hobby—it was his calling. In 2021, he made the bold decision to pursue birdhouse making full-time, dedicating himself entirely to his craft.

Today, Doug spends his days doing what he loves most: creating one-of-a-kind birdhouses that are functional and beautiful. He is constantly experimenting and incorporating elements like hand-carved creatures, faces, and tree spirits, all carved from driftwood and cottonwood bark.

During spring and summer, Doug and his wife Bianca travel to various local markets and art shows, where they proudly showcase their work, connect with fellow artists, and meet new customers who appreciate the unique blend of artistry and nature in each piece.

What started as a simple hobby evolved into something much more meaningful—an outlet for creativity and self-expression. For Doug, crafting birdhouses isn't just about sawdust; it's about finding purpose and healing in his creativity.

He calls it sawdust therapy

WE BELIEVE

...that when you purchase something handmade, you are buying more than just an object.

You’re buying countless hours of failures and experimentation. You are buying days, weeks, and months of frustration and moments of ‘pure joy’. You are not just buying a thing, you’re buying a piece of heart, an insight into someone’s soul, a moment of someone’s life.
More importantly, you are giving the artist confidence in their product, a chance to develop their skills further, and an opportunity to support themselves and to re-invest the money back into their business and community.

So thank you

for allowing us the opportunity to inspire and impact others by
simply doing what we love.
Our wish for you is to recognize the gifts, the magnificence, and the beauty that is all around you.

Sometimes, the most cherished gifts of all are the most difficult to see, especially when they’re right in front of us.
We are truly grateful for the gift you have given us. You.

Seize the day.
